The Little Cottonwood Brown Ditch System needed rehabilitating, and a critical component of this rehabilitation was replacing the existing diversion dam. The existing dam used planks to back the water up into the ditch, and therefore experienced significant water loss.
Franson Civil Engineers designed a new diversion, which consisted of two overshot gates, to better control the water flow and more efficiently and effectively lead it into the ditch. This allows high flows to be safely passed downstream. The project also included replacing about 550 feet of open ditch with pipe.
In addition to providing construction bidding and management services, we also assisted the Little Cottonwood Brown Ditch Company (LCBDC) in obtaining funding for this project from both the Utah Board of Water Resources and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
